ND Crown was released in 2020 by the NDSU pulse crops breeding and genetics program. It is a high-yielding kabuli chickpea that consistently produces large seed, is resistant to lodging with great standability, and comparable maturity to commercial cultivars like CDC Frontier and CDC Orion. In addition, ND Crown exhibits moderate resistance to Ascochyta blight, and shines under high disease pressure, displaying significantly lower Ascochyta blight severity than CDC Frontier and CDC Orion.
