OAT

ND Carson

Jury Oat

A spring oat with good yield potential, good test weight, and good lodging resistance. ND CARSON exhibits crown rust resistance similar to “Leggett”. The crown rust resistance of ND CARSON was derived from the diploid Avena strigosa by Rines. Rines derived the crown rust resistance used in ND CARSON from A. strigosa independently of the derivation (Pc 94) for Leggett, but the resistance in ND141338 is inhibited by Pc38 as it is in Leggett. ND CARSON does not likely have crown rust resistance that exceeds Leggett. The milling characteristics of ND CARSON are considered good, but it produces slightly more thin kernels than ND Spilde. ND141138 produced consistently high grain yield and test weight in ND Oat Variety Trials
