ND Hammond Flax

ND Hammond flax seed was named in honor of longtime NDSU flax breeder Dr. James Hammond who made significant contributions to flax research. This flax seed variety was released in 2018. The North Dakota Crop Improvement and Seed Association has rights to production and distribution of seed.

This brown-seeded flax variety that is adapted to the flax growing region of the United States. It has medium maturity and high yield potential. In trials from 2015-2017 it had the greatest average yield of all entries tested. ND Hammond has good oil drying quality and resistance to flax wilt. Like other flax varieties, it has the characteristic blue flowers and has medium seed size. 

To help ensure genetic purity, this variety is protected under Plant Variety Protection Title V and must be sold as a class of certified seed.
